In August 2025, several important forums will be organized in Awaza as part of the United Nations' Third Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3). These forums aim to give new impetus to global development through the participation of governments, the private sector, civil society organizations, and youth.
Civil Society Forum (4–5 August)
Titled “Framing the Action: Advancing a New Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries,” this forum will bring together civil society organizations, academia, business groups, and government representatives to discuss sustainable development, the digital economy, environmental protection, and financial cooperation. The outcome will be a joint declaration submitted to the main UN conference.
Private Sector Forum (5–6 August)
Under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities in Business,” this forum will promote the economic development potential of 32 landlocked developing countries. Business leaders, investors, and international organizations will discuss how to foster new economic models, strengthen public-private partnerships, and attract long-term investment.
Youth Forum (4–5 August)
The LLDC3 Youth Forum offers an opportunity for global leaders to hear directly from those on the front lines of development challenges. It also gives young people a chance to engage in international decision-making processes. Active youth participation in LLDC3 could contribute unique strategies for overcoming geographic barriers, enabling sustainable economic development, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Parliamentary Forum (4 August)
Also titled “Framing the Action: Advancing a New Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries,” this forum brings together parliamentarians from landlocked and partner countries to discuss legal foundations for development strategies, international trade rules, and good governance practices.
South-South Cooperation Forum (6 August)
This forum will explore how South-South cooperation can support resilient, sustainable, and reform-oriented policies in landlocked developing countries.
Women Leaders’ Forum
Titled “From Commitment to Transformation: Women Driving the Programme of Action for the Third Conference on LLDCs,” this forum aims to highlight that empowering women and girls in LLDCs is not merely a matter of choice but a strategic imperative for successfully implementing the new Programme of Action and achieving sustainable development.
Key goals include:
Promoting high-level political support for full, equal, and meaningful participation of women and girls;
Sharing best practices and identifying impactful actions and policy recommendations to amplify women’s voices and opportunities;
Strengthening cooperation and joint action among all stakeholders to effectively implement the new Programme of Action.
7. Connectivity Forum (5–8 August)
Under the title “Connectivity: Digital Opportunities Beyond Borders,” this forum will explore how digital technologies can boost information and service flows in LLDCs and improve access to global markets for businesses.
These forums are expected to generate valuable insights and recommendations that will influence the political outcomes to be adopted at the main conference, held on 11–13 August 2025.
