In 2008, retail trade turnover was estimated at 16 million manats; in 2023, it increased 8.5 times and reached 140 million manats. This means the saturation of the domestic consumer market. In 2023, the stable GDP growth rate was maintained, and substantial funds were allocated to the development of the industrial and social sectors. The major event of the year was the opening of Arkadag City.

One of the indicators of national development and the standard of living of people is demographic growth. According to the 2022 census, the population of Turkmenistan exceeds 7 million people. Compared to 2008, it grew by about 2 million.
